Remediation of Hydrocarbon Contaminated Soil and Water

Closer-Up-DiscingAs part of our full circle service, Envirotech operates a New Mexico Oil Conservation Division (NMOCD) permitted commercial landfarm facility and a New Mexico Environmental Department (NMED) permitted commercial landfarm facility designed for the treatment of hydrocarbon-contaminated soils and water. Utilizing landfarming technology with photodegredation and bioremediation processes, Envirotech has successfully remediated hundreds of thousands of cubic yards of hydrocarbon contaminated soil and water.

Landfarm #2 – Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Waste

Envirotech’s NMOCD permitted remediation facility, Landfarm #2, is limited to the acceptance of hydrocarbon contaminated soil and/or water from the exploration and/or production of oil and gas.

Exempt Oil Field Waste

  • Waste materials generated by or intrinsically associated with the exploration and production of oil and gas, such as but not limited to the following:
  • Drilling fluids and cuttings, rigwash, and completion and workover wastes
  • BS & W and other tank bottoms that hold exempt waste
  • Pit sludges from treatment, storage, or disposal of exempt wastes
  • Packing fluids, produced sand, and deposits removed from piping and equipment prior to transportation
  • Hydrocarbon bearing soil contaminated from exempt streams
  • Constituents removed from produced water
  • Sludge/solid waste generated by crude oil and crude tank bottoms reclaimers
  • Waste from subsurface gas storage and retrieval
  • Waste crude oil from primary field operations
  • Light organics volatilized from exempt wastes
  • Stormwater run-off contaminated by exempt materials

Non-Exempt Oil Field Waste

  • Non-hazardous hydrocarbon containing waste associated with the exploration and production of oil and gas, such as but not limited to the following:
  • Unused fracturing fluids, drill mud, or cement (i.e. has not been down hole/in contact with the gas stream)
  • Oil and gas service company waste (i.e. spill clean-ups of non E&P waste streams)
  • Soil contaminated with used lubricating oils, waste compressor oil, and used hydraulic fluids
  • Transportation wastes
  • Manufacturing wastes and contamination from refined products
  • Petroleum containing chemical contaminated soil/sludge

Non-exempt waste MUST have either lab analysis or an MSDS in order to be considered for acceptance at Envirotech’s Landfarm #2 facility. Lab analysis will vary depending upon the waste stream. Analysis may include, but is not limited to, TCLP Metals, 8021, 8015, Chlorides, and RCI. The above list is not an exhaustive list.

Additionally, Envirotech’s Landfarm #2 facility does not accept product or waste with a recoverable amount of product. Please contact the landfarm administrator or environmental manager for approval or clarification of non-exempt waste streams.

Landfarm #3 – UST and Non-Oilfield Waste

Waste acceptance at Envirotech’s NMED permitted remediation facility, Landfarm #3 facility, is limited to the acceptance of non-hazardous hydrocarbon contaminated soil and/or water from waste associated with USTs, transportation accidents, and other non-oilfield related sites.

UST Exempt Waste

  • Gasoline or diesel contaminated soil or water from the removal or cleanout of underground storage tanks (USTs)
  • Soil or water contaminated with gasoline is required to be analyzed for 8021 and ignitability and may be subject to lead testing
  • An MSDS for diesel will be required for soil or water contaminated with diesel

Non-Oilfield, Non-Exempt Waste

  • Hydrocarbon contaminated soil and or water from spill/accident clean-ups
  • Non-PCB containing transformer oil contaminated soil (NO FREE LIQUIDS)

Non-oilfield, non-exempt waste MUST have either lab analysis or an MSDS in order to be considered for acceptance at Envirotech’s Landfarm #3 facility. Lab analysis will vary depending upon the waste stream. Analysis may include, but is not limited to, TCLP Metals, 8021, 8015, Chlorides, and RCI. The above list is not an exhaustive list.

Additionally, Envirotech’s Landfarm #3 facility does not accept product or waste with a recoverable amount of product. Please contact the landfarm administrator or environmental manager for approval or clarification of non-exempt waste streams.
